The last few Wednesdays we have discussed at a couple Values of Worship and how we can implement them into our daily lives. (You can review the previous weeks here & here.)
Today’s “value of worship” is what I would personally consider the most important of them all.
Worship Value #3:
Our worship must be: SACRIFICIAL
Think about the gifts that you’ve received at Christmas or for a birthday. We greatly appreciate the gifts that we know cost the giver the most, whether it be monetarily or time or whatever. It may be a gift that a loved one spent months and months making. It may be a gift that you know they sacrificed something they loved in order to give it to you.
It’s the same w/ our worship to God. He delights in sacrificial worship. Worship that costs us something.
The jar of perfume that Mary poured on Jesus’ feet was expensive. It was a sacrifice of worship. It cost her a years wages. John 12:3
The widows offering, only 2 small copper coins, wasn’t a lot of money at all, but it was just as sacrificial. It was all she had. Mark 12:42
Sacrificial worship isn’t just about money. Sacrificial worship is also us giving our time to serve. It could also be someone sacrificing their “dream job” to stay committed and faithful to the local church God has called them to. It’s also us giving up what we want to do, or our preferences and comfort, for whatever it is God has called us to. Sacrifice is all about us laying down our lives so that He can be lifted up.
It’s never easy and it’s rarely fun – but I believe sacrificial worship is what God honors most.
Live a life of Expectant, Responsive and Sacrificial worship.
