How we're running loops this weekend

It's really simple actually.

iTunes.

After last weeks Abelton Live fiasco I decided to try and find a simpler way to play our loops/click tracks.
Our previous set up was using Abelton Live with an MAudio 410 interface.
We ran 6 outputs from the 410 to the FOH (front of house). 1 for click and the rest, pads, loops, strings, synths, percussion etc....
It's a great, no wait, fantastic set up. however it's complicated and i'm the only one on our team that currently knows how to run Live.
It'd take me about an hour or more every week to set up the Live tracks.

Anyway - this past weekend we hosted Aaron Shust, Chris Sligh and a few other artists at our church for a concert. The drummer had a macbook pro setup running loops so I ventured up to find out how he was running it.

To my surprise I saw his laptop w/ an 1/8th stereo cable split to 2 1/4 inch cables going into 2 DI's.

I couldn't believe it. I asked him if he was really running it like that and he said "Yep".
He then went on to tell me his story. It was exactly the same as mine. He wanted a simpler set up that he didn't have to use "out of the box" gear (i.e. audio interface etc...).

Here's the deal. You take your tracks in ProTools, Logic or Garageband for that matter. Send the Click to the Left side of the master output channel and then mix all the other tracks to your liking and then pan them all to the Right master output. Bounce the files down to AIFF files and dump them into iTunes.

It's simpler for the FOH engineer as well. You don't have to worry about them not pushing up certain sounds in the loops at certain times etc...

We rehearsed w/ this setup tonight and it worked awesome.

I'm not saying we won't use Abelton again - but considering the time this saves... I could see us using iTunes a lot more in the future.

How do you run loops?

Gonna try the VIA

This is Starbucks new VIA ready brew coffee. I've heard it's really
good, but not sure I believe it's as good as freshly brewed coffee.

Have you tried it? If so what did you think?

Bet ya didn't know this....

I am a skee-ball master.
Chuck-e-cheese skee-ball fears me.
I own it.
450,000 points gives me the grand prize.... Everytime.
Today it spit out 250 tickets for which we exchanged it for an eraser.

It doesn't matter though.... I would play skee-ball for free, however
I'm considering going pro.

Values of Worship: 3

The last few Wednesdays we have discussed at a couple Values of Worship and how we can implement them into our daily lives. (You can review the previous weeks here & here.)

Today’s “value of worship” is what I would personally consider the most important of them all.

Worship Value #3:
Our worship must be: SACRIFICIAL

Think about the gifts that you’ve received at Christmas or for a birthday. We greatly appreciate the gifts that we know cost the giver the most, whether it be monetarily or time or whatever. It may be a gift that a loved one spent months and months making. It may be a gift that you know they sacrificed something they loved in order to give it to you.

It’s the same w/ our worship to God. He delights in sacrificial worship. Worship that costs us something.

The jar of perfume that Mary poured on Jesus’ feet was expensive. It was a sacrifice of worship. It cost her a years wages. John 12:3
The widows offering, only 2 small copper coins, wasn’t a lot of money at all, but it was just as sacrificial. It was all she had. Mark 12:42

Sacrificial worship isn’t just about money. Sacrificial worship is also us giving our time to serve. It could also be someone sacrificing their “dream job” to stay committed and faithful to the local church God has called them to. It’s also us giving up what we want to do, or our preferences and comfort, for whatever it is God has called us to. Sacrifice is all about us laying down our lives so that He can be lifted up.

It’s never easy and it’s rarely fun – but I believe sacrificial worship is what God honors most.

Live a life of Expectant, Responsive and Sacrificial worship.

B
